Title: Creating ammo
Post by: dave-s on January 03, 2002, 12:24:26 pm
Im using the DF ammo generator to make custom ammo - the first that I made a 5x40mm caseless [I know nothing about ammunition so 5x40 could be rediculous] it was over powered and checking against the 50bmg in the gfcm chart it it more powerful than that.

So I tried the good old 5.56x45, still overpowered. Where am I going wrong?

Is it because I should be taking the measurements of the projectile and not the whole cartridge??

I dont know.

If any one knows could they let me know.

Thanks

The measurement the ammo generator asks for is the actual bullet measurements and not the case i.e. 5.56x45mm. Where you may be running into problems is with the bullet weights and muzzle velocities. For 5.56 ammo the muzzle velocity for a standard nato round fired from an M-16 is a good one to use. Remmeber the bullets energy is derived from the bullet mass and velocity...so watch those figures real close and make sure you are using real ammo stats.

Thanks Cobra, I presumed thats where I was going wrong :)
Any chance you could point me in the direction of any site(s) which would have the relevant info? The one I use just gives cartridge sizes.
Thanks
