I listened to it on tape book and would recommend it.  The story of R6 actually is very similar to the book, just the book is fleshed out more with plot where as the game is fleshed out with extra action.  But the things like the Water Ride level (sort of), the Mint, and then the last part in the biodome thing are all part of the story.

Everybody i've heard talk about it liked it , except me . I had to force myself to read it , quit at page 200 . I've heard it said Clancy is the only one who can get away with his writing style . I've also heard critics say R6 is his worst book . One big difference is no chick operatives in the book .

Well like I said I listened to it (and I believe it was an abridged version) so maybe that made it better.

I read it on holiday, nice and relaxed so maybe thats why I liked it, It was the first Clancy book Id read, Both the book and game are similar with minor differences. Why Vega wasnt in the game I dont know. Which one came first?

The book was out 1st... I truthfuly never finished it either. It's a very tedious writing style, too descriptive for me, I tend to lose interest. It's a good story, it has some sweet action scenes, but few and far between. I got about 2/3 through it in like 2 years, lol. But I'll fly through a Richard Marcinko Rogue Warrior book in 2 days, haha...

I don't think I've ever read a Clancy book as I agree, not the best style.  Same goes with Grisham, they both do better in audio or video.

Oh man! I don't know about you guys. I finished the book in two days. If you ever want to read a very detailed but fictional account of war, and what it feels like to be in battle, pick up 'Team Yankee' by Harold Coyle...very very good reading. If you ever want to know what its like being an infantry grunt or a tanker you have to read it.

I'm with Cobra.  Couldn't put it down, which surprised me because I expected the worst -- Clancy is a gadget junkie and his characters tend to be pretty predictable.  But "Rainbow Six" has some interesting aging lefties, bioterrorists, ex-KGB flotsam, etc., plus lots of nuts and bolts about the tactics of counter-terrorism.  And no Jack Ryan: also a positive.

I'm having a hard time with "Sum of All Fears," though.  Changes in Russia and the Middle East have been huge since it was written.  I'm sure they had to do major surgery on the plot to make it work as a film.

yall are right clancy is very technical, and its all got to do with the russians. i thought that R6 was deffinatly his worst book, its kinda a junk read, fun, but not as good as the jack ryan seris

I quite like Clancy, not read much, R6,Clear & present danger [thought the film wasnt up to much], and I think it was sum of all fears, the one where the Russian power plant blows up in the eginging and Russia try and take on NATO. Ive read them whilst siting next to a pool or on the beach which is probably why I got into them, no distractions.
Cobra: 2 days, took me 2 weeks!

I got half way through the book, never finished it. Usually only read them on plane rides. I looked through some of his books this weekend, he has one althoguh I forgot the title that has John Clark and Chavo in it. I think its suppose to be alot better.
