Title: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on January 12, 2005, 10:46:04 pm Watched the movie King Arthur last night. The fight scenes are awesome in that movie, not to mention Keira Knightly is freaking HOT Anyway I liked this movie it had a good plot even though it was a totally different version of King Arthur than I have ever read. But It was quite good, Anyone else seen this movie?
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Croosch on January 12, 2005, 10:53:46 pm I saw Meet the Fockers a couple nights ago and I thought it wasn't quite as good as the first one. It has its funny moments, but overall it's not as funny as Meet the Parents.

I've seen and liked Closer, Finding Neverland, The Incredibles, and Oceans 12(Although it wasn't as good as the first one. I also saw the Motorcycle Diaries, which I would really recomend. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on January 12, 2005, 11:44:15 pm I took my 5-year-old daughter to see Polar Express the other day. It was cute.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Croosch on January 12, 2005, 11:52:29 pm yea, I saw Polar Express at the iMax theatre in 3D... any movie in tht theatre is amazing (iMax is at the Minnesota Zoo) I think it's like the 3rd largest movie screen in he world and one of the top sound systems.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: spike on January 13, 2005, 12:08:07 am I saw it at the iMax in boston. I think it being in 3D was the only redeeming feature. The kids looked very wooden, specially his friend on the train.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Ein on January 13, 2005, 12:21:54 am saw both polar express and the sponge bob movie... damn I like cartoons too much. :(
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Mr.Mellow on January 13, 2005, 12:50:01 am I saw Meet the Fockers a couple nights ago and I thought it wasn't quite as good as the first one. It has its funny moments, but overall it's not as funny as Meet the Parents. Yeah, I thought it was -almost- as good as the original. Seemed a bit shorter than the original though. Loved the scene with the cop towards the end. "STOP RESISTING!" ahhhhh that part killed me. Anyways. I'd recommend it, definitely worth seeing. While we're talking movies, who's stoked about the new Willy Wonka flick coming out this summer? Tim Burton's directing it, Johnny Depp is Willy Wonka. Gonna be sweet. :D Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on January 13, 2005, 01:19:42 am Johnny Depp is such a good diverse actor, Edward Scissor hands... Pirates of the carribean, Secret Window, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Wow if thats not diverse then... Anyway I loved Oceans 11 I wanna see oceans 12, think I will this weekend, But I dont understand why they would ever give the money back, must have to see the money to understand... Another movie I saw another time recently (no I have seen it before and yes it is older) is The Italian Job. That is a good movie (with another hot girl Charlize Theron)
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: *DAMN Bondo on January 13, 2005, 05:19:07 am I thought Meet The Fockers was better than Meet the Parents...I guess I identified with the humor better, I could see myself being like his father, a lawyer who becomes a househusband and such. Anyway, I saw that, Phantom of the Opera, and National Treasure over Christmas weekend.
On DVD lately I've seen Troy, Garden State (amazing, best movie last year that I've seen,) Manchurian Candidate, The Cooler. I'll probably watch Silver City tomorrow, got that from Netflix today. While Garden State moved to the top of my list, Phantom of the Opera is about third, I'd never seen it performed but the story is really amazing and I already figured I'd like the music since I like Andrew Lloyd Weber's Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar. Yes, I am big into musical theatre, and I'm secure in that ;D Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on January 13, 2005, 05:40:17 am <Writes his netflix reveiw> I got King Arthur from Netflix and the next movie on my list is Man Of (or on) Fire (I think its of fire) anyway I hope this one is good, btw Natalie Portman is hot too, anyone know when the next Star wars is out, this summer isnt it? Anyway I also saw national treasure, and since I doubt it came out in Europe (although Im probably horribly wrong) it is a movie about a guy who thinks that the forefathers Of the USA decided to hide all of the treasure from the egyptian temples, in america. And they devised some clues ranging from an old pipe on a boat frozen in the artic circle, to a cypher on the back of the Declaration of Independence, Pretty original storyline and is a cool movie for morons and history-buffs alike. I liked the movie quite well.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: *DAMN Bondo on January 13, 2005, 05:07:04 pm Pretty original storyline and is a cool movie for morons and history-buffs alike. I liked the movie quite well. Haha, I liked the movie a good deal, but saying it has an original storyline is funny because it is a blatant rip-off of The Da Vinci Code. It is basically an Americanized version. Has most of the Dan Brown conventions though. Yeah, the "final" Star Wars comes out in late May I think. Portman was never finer than in Garden State ;) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: c| Lone-Wolf on January 13, 2005, 08:34:08 pm Yeah, the "final" Star Wars comes out in late May I think. I so desperately wish i didnt feel obligated to go see it, no matter how painful i know it is going to be. ::wall:: Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: *DAMN Mauti on January 14, 2005, 11:20:17 pm The last movie I have seen in the cinema was Oldboy. Damn this movie is extremely brutal, although you don't see that much blood. Much more violent than Kill Bill in my opinion. Also the story is so weird, but after looking closer at it they just have retold the story of Oedipus and another greek saga.
However the pictures this movie shows are so beautiful, every scene has its own still life. Other movies I saw recently in TV was We were soldiers, quite nice movie, and The virgin suicides, weird one,but also very nice. Bye, Mauti Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: *DAMN Bondo on January 15, 2005, 02:44:15 am I really liked Silver City but I wonder if it is a movie that Coloradans would enjoy more than anyone else. I mean, I assume people across the country and indeed the world can go in for the parody of sorts of Bush/Rove/Republican Party. But there is so much in Silver City that is specifically Colorado. Aside from shooting the movie in Denver and the mining city of Leadville, the writer/director really did a good job researching Coloradan political issues: environmental degredation due to mining, illegal immigration, water rights, etc. I just ate it up because it was so local.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on January 15, 2005, 11:02:07 am Ive just got "Fargo" out on DVD to watch again... Its one of the Coen brothers best films if you ask me. If you've not seen anything by them, do so, really. please, they are bloody good :)
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: *DAMN Elandrion on January 15, 2005, 12:51:41 pm I've seen:
Collateral: nice, but sometimes unnecessarily brutal, Oceans 12: didn't like that at all... very weird, and there is almost no coherent story for the last half hour, Moulin Rouge: that was very funny. even her dying was funny... We were soldies was very nice too, especially compared to Haunted Hill on the other Channel. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? The Man Who Wasn't there was also better than Fargo IMO. Saw In Good Company at the theatre today. It was pretty good...funny and touching, but had a few aspects at the end that I didn't like. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Cobra on January 16, 2005, 04:05:17 am I recently purchased Garden State (which is excellent) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which is probably my favorite movie of 2004) on DVD, so I had the pleasure of watchin' those again. I got Collateral for Christmas, which I thought was extremely well done — the characters' subtle quirks, honest psychological standoffs, and visceral intensity are just outstanding.

Fargo and O Brother are very different films - both excellent in their own right. The man who wasn't there was good but how exactly would you say it was 'better' than Fargo? .. just curiouse :) I sat through "the avengers" Last night... As a film student i think i can fairly say it was one of the worst bloody films ive seen in a long long time - massive budget, appauling script and a disasterouse performance from a cast that couldn't have been any more clinical and sterile. Its no wonder if flopped in the box office. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on January 16, 2005, 10:44:20 pm Well my review for Oceans 12 follows:
If you have seen Oceans 11 you know how insanely confusing it is. Any for those who enjoy the confusing (like myself) you will not be let down. Also I think that you could see this movie without having seen the first one, Here is the one peice of information you need, Danny Ocean and his 10 co-conspirators stole 160 million (ish) from Terry Benedict, because Benedict stole Oceans wife away from him. In the end Ocean gets the girl and the money. I enjoyed the Julia Roberts playing herself (Especially enjoyed the frenchman telling her she looked nothing like her) and Bruce Willace (excuse my spelling) was an unexpected but funny cameo, might I add that Once again another movie has an incredibly hot girl in it (Catherine Zeta Jones, lucky michael douglous) Anyway, I think that this was and is a very good movie and worth seeing, for the 30 minutes of no plot, maybe you are referring to benedict going to each of the 11 members? See the first movie or read above. That should explain why it had 30 minutes of no plot. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on January 16, 2005, 11:26:22 pm Has anyone seen Elektra yet? I'm gonna go sometime this week when I get a chance since I'm a big Jennifer Garner fan. Garner is hot, Alias used to be such a good show. However, she doesn't make the movie. J Lo is hot, and she has been in a run of shitty movies. Speaking of shitty movies, I really want to seeConstantine. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Couldnt help but watch the rest. ::lol:: Anybody remember that movie? As far as movies that are comming up, has anybody heard of the movie, Serenity, that's comming out in September? I'm quite looking forward to it.(Was scheduled to come out in March i believe, but they didnt want to compete with HitchHiker's Guide To The Galaxy, which comes out in March as well) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? I want to see Saving Private Ryan on the big screen, I imagine the first 25 minutes would be fucking intense. I watched 28 Days Later at 1:30 AM thinking it was a comedy, and by the time I realized what it really ways, it'd already taken over my mind. It inspired me to sit in my living room with a loaded 30-06 until morning. I watched Man on Fire a few weeks ago, I must say I wasn't very impressed. I think had they added about an hour to it, it might've been interesting. You basically see him going from person to person ( interogating them, then killing them, like John Clark ( Kelly ) in Without Remorse ). However, it gives you almost no information as to how he found the people, etc. Many parts of it were pretty weak. On top of that, the ending didn't make much sense. Best thing I've ever seen ( I would consider it a movie ) is Tom Hanks and Steven Speilburg's Band of Brothers. Fucking incredible series, everyone should watch that. Post by: *DAMN Mauti on February 02, 2005, 09:10:40 pm I just saw Blow the first time with Johnny Depp. He got everything just to lose even more! This movie is really great and it really overwhelmed me. Damn the end, I really thought she is there and only his daughter at 8 years is a flash back but when he walks along with her and suddenly you realise she was never there :'( He earned my sympathy.
Another fantastic movie I just watched was Magnolia, I have the soundtrack since years and I loved it and the movie is also awesome. When suddenly you see how all the little stories connect to one big sad piece. When the daughter left the policeman, the young wife tries suicide I already thought the movie is over, but at this time it just started somehow - and when it began to rain frogs - insane, just insane. The picture was incredible, but I still have to see the movie 2 - 3 times more to get all the details and little hints. If you haven't seen it - do so! Bye, Mauti Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? The movie itself isn't sad at all, but the story behind this movie is what led to this man's great deeds throughout his life.

Well i just watched the trailer for "Kingdom of Heaven" - ok not the film just the trailer but meh. I have to say it looks like the most tactless and senseless film imaginable, and im amazed to see just how many americans apparently took part in the crusades. Its really fecking annoying - its got some great actors in it, and it looks visually stunning, so why the fuck did they have to do it on the crusades? It looks totally way over the top, completely romanticized, and its making out like the crusades were something to be proud off... rather than crazy english kings and Co. rushing off to the east to slaughter people in the name of god.. Crazy people rushing off to the east to slaughter people in the name of god.... damn that sounds so familiar. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Mr.Mellow on May 09, 2005, 07:14:36 am Saw Kingdom of Heaven as well, wasn't nearly as offensive as it looks in the previews. It's all about religious tolerance. And Orlando Bloom wasn't as nancy-boy in it as he is in other movies, although his accent is still very feminine. lol. Nevertheless, it was a good movie, definitely fun to see in the theaters.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Brutha on May 09, 2005, 11:51:01 am What do you mean his accent is still very feminine?? Thats actually how some ppl talk.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: KoS PY.nq.ict on May 09, 2005, 02:35:42 pm Kingdom of Heaven was alright. It seemed too cut and paste. The scenes were jumbled together.

Post by: Mr.Mellow on May 21, 2005, 07:13:49 am Saw Star Wars III on opening night....No, I did not reserve tickets, or dress up. lol. I just got tickets in the afternoon. Lots of people dressed up like Jedis, being nerds and dueling and such. Also saw some chick dressed like an Ewok, that was freakin' awesome. Anyways, movie was badass, it's a must see. Also saw Enron: Smartest Guys In The Room, or something like that. It was a decent documentary on the Enron scandal and such. I was expecting it to be better, but it was still interesting.

Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Mr.Mellow on May 21, 2005, 06:40:24 pm Overrated? GASP! Blasphemy! ;) I honestly thought it was really, really good. Fellow who plays Anakin..forget his name..His acting still isn't the best, but ya know. I do wish they had some more of the old-school Star Wars lightsaber duels, and not all this jumping-around-so-fast-that-I-feel-like-I'm-gonna-have-a-seizure-from-all-the-flashing-lights. But still. Quality film!
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on May 21, 2005, 06:53:44 pm Return of the Jedi is by far the best, havnt seen this new one to compare, but I will be sort of comparing the two.

Yeah, the acting sucked, but I thought Lucas portrayed the tragic shift to the dark side of Anakin very nicely. People need to stop comparing the new ones to the old ones. Automatically people think they suck because they know exactly what is going to happen. You gotta take each one for what it's worth. I actually think the new ones are almost equal to the old trilogy. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on May 27, 2005, 05:27:18 pm Saw Episode III, the movie was great. There are a few things that it needed.
Trade Federation Droids: They Talk like humans... WTF war droids dont have personalities, they are : programmed to kill... Jar Jar Binks: He is in the movie and didnt die, need I say more? The acting: I remember one scene where they are trapped in some sort of field on general droid guys ship, : and Obi Wan says to Anakin, "We are smarter than this" and that is all the dialogue that : transcribes between them the scene made very little sense, and in my opinion should havehad : more added to it, or have been deleted. The Droid General: His name escapes me, but his purpose in the movie is minimal, but is made out to be : phenomenal he is half alien, half droid (Which the movie does not do a good job of : showing. The General could have been done better in my opinion. Other than this, the movie is very good and gets two thumbs up from me (who gives a shit about Old Man Ebert, and new guy Roper) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: bronto on May 27, 2005, 08:36:23 pm actually, I think Ebert gave it a good review...correct me if i'm wrong.
anyway, i would just like to revisit the following 2 movies: Collateral and Man On Fire. those are 2 really good films right there, both of them actually hold your interest all the way through, there are 0 dull scenes and just everything about them in general is great. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on May 28, 2005, 04:44:04 am I saw Man on Fire a couple months ago, (May have mentioned that here as an excellent movie) but yeah. word of advice. if you want to enjoy pulp fiction don't watch a film like the Godfather first, because you will have seen a real good film made by a stunning director and will thus be aware of just how shit a film such as pulp fiction is. ok probably going to be called 'controversial', but i really don't know what all the fuss is about tarentino - pulp fiction is not a great film, hell its not even a really good film. ganstas saying fuck, killing people and shooting up does not make a great film. Post by: bronto on June 15, 2005, 05:54:32 pm i agree that tarantino is not the hottest shit on the block, but pulp fiction is one of my favorite films. sure, it may be excessively violent, but there's more then that...it all ties into a crisscrossing story line that actually holds my attention throughout. films don't have to be wam-bam-amazing breakthrough just to be good, i appreciate the subtleties, which pulp fiction has a lot of. lots of great too.
comparing it to the godfather is unfair. if you compared it to a different tarantino film, or from the same time period, or maybe a film that has the same actors at least, it would be ok. but seeing as the godfather and pulp fiction have nothing in common, they're not really up for comparison, but preference. kill bills were garbage, there's a comparison. team america world police was pretty hilarious, but towards the end there was far too little comic relief (or worthy comic relief) for my liking...even though the story line was a joke anyway. the sex scene is enough reason for anyone to watch it though, i think i blew a lung on that part. i watched it without knowing beforehand what it was about and i found myself predicting everything that was going to happen easily...i was waiting for it to get scary the whole way through, then the credits rolled and i was like w tee eff m8? they tried to make it like a 6th sense ending, but it was so predictable and poor. batman begins- sexy. war of the worlds- i wanted the kids to die the whole time, they were irritating x10 wedding crashers- one of the funniest movies i think i've ever seen, there were a few parts i was almost in tears march of the penguins- amazing, really well done charlie and the chocolate factory- some inconsistencies, but i loved it nonetheless. skeleton key- mediocre. kind of a mindfuck, too. 40 year old virgin- sooo funny, but incredibly vulgar. and i think i'm cashed. Oh well I saw also a few movies recently: Crash: quite good, especially the end - until the middle it is a bit to black and white imo Charlie and the Choclate Factory - it seems in USA everyone knew this story, I didn't, and found the movie very boring. The Island: a good entertaining summer movie especially the future of public transportation in Los Angeles made me laugh ;-) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? And its got some brilliant laughs. The use of CGI was really neatly done, when you think about where its used its obviuse - but when you watch it if you didn't think about these sorts of things you wouldn't think twice. the rabbits are so sweet and just about every woman in the cinema (and half the blokes went 'awaaah')

Id have preffered to see it on the big screen i must say - films like that you can really only appreciate on a big scale (or rather thats the case with sin city apparently!) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Civrock on October 24, 2005, 12:51:30 am Been in Doom yesterday, loved it. I couldn't put it into better words that a comment on IMDB:
Quote Despite what many others may say, this movie is VERY good for what it is: a mindless action movie. I enjoyed the game itself very much and it really scared the shit out of me. I was expecting a horror movie, but I soon realized that it's not only that, it's also an action movie with a good portion of humor. Well, what can you expect from an action movie other than lots of shooting and SOME suspense? If you think the movie is shallow, it is, but its supposed to be. Anyone who complains about the movie being a mindless shooting movie should realize that this is not the movie for them, so they should go watch one of their "emotional" movies if they want. However, if you need a break and just want your testosterone pumping so you can take a break from life and just be a manly man. If you don't like The Rock, then go watch a romance or comedy, this movie isn't for you. However, if you like the video game and like mindless action, this is the movie for you. Remember, not every movie has to have some deep meaning or evoke emotion, some movies are just for fun. This is one of them. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on October 24, 2005, 03:56:52 am I just saw Wallace and Grommit, great movie, the animation is fantastic, the dog plane chase was done quite well. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: (SiX)Sheixhundt on November 17, 2005, 07:08:45 pm BFG,
I had to respond to Mautis take on SinCity.. SINCE..you work with film or whatever...Im sure you can appreciate the technical aspects of shooting pictures and the millions fo ways this can be done. The opening scene was shot merely as a pilot piece to get the other actors commited to the piece. And they kept the 'Rough' in the final. Judge this thru the strict filter of realizing that the entire purpose was to accurately and faithfully reproduce the look and feel of the graphic novel of the same name. And judged with that criterion in mind, you cant escape the conclusion that it was a smash success... This was an ART PIECE...and as such, the style reflects that fact. ART..ART..ART. If you dont live or breathe art, i can totally understand why this one might escape your admiration...but... No One and I mean no one has translated an INK piece to film in such a dynamic manner. Take it for that. SUPERB, and i mean FUCKING superb lighting..and composition. Each frame is actually worthy of examining it like a cel in a graphic novel. Each scene is a work of art in its own right. We bought it so my wife who teaches art, can show REAL world examples of the art principles writ large. It is a direct and immaculately translated Graphic Novel. And shot amost entirely greenscreen. So you compare that to some REALLY big pieces of shit like o, say ALL of the recent deadpan Star wars flicks who waste their entire budget on cold Cgi and Greenscreen acting that would make any porn star proud.. Mark Sin City down as one of the modern (and experimental) masterpieces of modern ART filmmaking... Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? It's such a great movie just talking about racism and ignorance in the U.S. and it really has good themes all throughtout the movie, sometimes when they had guys kissing guys ect. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on November 26, 2005, 03:27:11 pm We just saw Harry Potter - it was alot darker than the others. Finally the storyline went away from, they go to Hogwarts, something bad happens, harry fixes it, they leave hogwarts. I still am not a huge fan of it but that's probably because I haven't read the book and I don't plan on reading the books either but my gf drags me to the movies more or less. Rent still owns Harry Potter in my opinion. My gf said she almost cried when the kid was killed by Voldemort - I didn't understand because if you want to evoke emotion in the audience you have to get the audience attached to this character that is killed. Rent did a great job of that, Harry Potter certainly did not.

Shade, these movies make so much more sense/ evoke so much more emotion if you have read the books... I dont understand why you say you wont read them. Unless you just dont want to read good literature (At least give them a try.) If you havnt read the Harry Potter books the movies wouldnt make much sense, thats for sure.I give it a "Meh" - take it or leave it. I have to agree with dark completely on this. I read the first three books and enjoyed the movies just as much as the books. But the fourth book I never got around to reading and I think the movie was terrible compared to the others. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on December 08, 2005, 06:49:24 pm We watched the Shawshank Redemption.
Excellent, excellent, excellent. I cried when the old man left the prison and couldn't fit into society because he had been in prison most of his life. P.S. - The movie is set in Maine. :D Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on December 08, 2005, 06:54:34 pm Yeah good film good film. Definatly tugs on the heart strings heh.
Mentioned i saw the Constant Gardener didn't i... Anyone else watched it yet? Really worth seeing. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: cookie on December 08, 2005, 10:50:47 pm Man, I was so excited about the Constant Gardener, because I really like that director, but it kind of let me down. It was interesting for the first half and then it just dropped off.
One movie that I recommend to everyone is Capote. It's probably only playing in independent theaters, but it is absolutely mesmerizing. It's the story of Truman Capote and his writing of "In Cold Blood", about two convicts who killed a family in Kansas. It's so deep, so tragic, and you will leave wanting to cry. Anyway. Movies I really, really REALLY want to see: Memoirs of a Geisha (my favorite book of all time!) Syriana Walk The Line Shopgirl Chronicles of Narnia Garcon Stupide (supposed to be really raunchy but an excellent movie) Cape of Good Hope and Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic (heheh) so I better start now, huh. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on December 09, 2005, 01:58:52 am Hmm Cookie....
Well the shakey camera bits really pissed me off - and id admit the pacing of the film at times was... questionable. But i wouldn't say i felt let down by the second half, anything but. Would also like to see Memoirs of a Geisha.. Chronicals of Naria im in two minds about - one the one hand they are the books of my childhood, on the other hand i cant face having my fantasys ripped to sacarine shreds by hollywood, not to mention the Christian undertones. Capote i've never heard of but will have to check out. Im still keen to See Jarhead, oh and Corpse Bride (Stop frame Tim Burton hehe woot!) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: jerkasaur on December 11, 2005, 11:42:40 am comon BFG, the book was full of christian overtones.
I wanna see Narnia, but after LotR, my expectations are way too high. Just saw Syriana - great movie, a little confusing at times, and definately something you DO NOT want to see stoned. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on December 11, 2005, 03:09:42 pm True the book was - but i was so young i didn't really realise heh.
Yeah Im pretty dead certain Narnia would be a disappointment after LotR. Watched The Nightmare before Christmas with the GF last night, Its Burton being brilliant.. as normal - the freaking animation is just fantastic! Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Brutha on December 11, 2005, 03:50:50 pm Yeah, Tim Burton is a genius...and very strange. I finally got to see Serenity last week...what a movie. All I can hope for now is a movie about Ace Rimmer. What a guy!
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on December 11, 2005, 05:33:12 pm We watched "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest"

Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: *NADS Lo$eMoney on December 15, 2005, 10:14:02 am I just saw King kong and it was one of the worst movies i've seen in years. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on December 15, 2005, 07:46:59 pm Wow, and I've heard nothing about good stuff about that movie prior to it's release.

Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on December 17, 2005, 04:40:16 am We just watched Slingblade - that was good. Billy Bob Thorton was simply amazing, he did such a great job in his role, you could hardly tell it was him.
And yet again I cried when he was leaving the little boy behind, seems like every movie I watch I've been crying lately and my gf doesn't, heh. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Brutha on December 26, 2005, 11:59:06 am I've just seen Chronicles of Narnia......and I was surprised. I liked it. Then again, The trailers do the movie no credit, because it's not really about the huge battles we see there. To me it seemed to focus more on the story.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on December 26, 2005, 12:40:10 pm Brutha im being dragged to see it with the GF and her friends tommorow.... i was really going to avoid it heh.
How much do the religious undertones stick through, i mean can you just watch it for what it is or does it really stick it in your face? in other words do i need a sick bag and a baseball bat or can i just go snuggle up with the GF? ;) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? I thought Fargo was greusome but this every other scene somebodys getting stabbed or sliced and diced, once again my hand was being used as a shield by my gf for the bloody parts. Damn that Al Swearengen is one nasty mofo. It's a great series, lots of violence, sex, and explicit language. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on January 24, 2006, 12:09:58 am We watched The Cider House Rules which was really good about an orphanage in Maine which gives abortions. I saw both of those when I was about 12, good movies. I love when Mel Gibson tomahawks that guy. Plus in Cider House Rules they have sex in the middle of a field so thats always cool.We also watched The Patriot about the American Revolution with Mel Gibson which was alot like Braveheart but nonetheless good. I saw Fun with Dick and Jane. I thought that was a great movie. It was short for movies nowadays, only about 1.5 hours. But It was a great story that stuck to the plot with those evil twists that make Jim Carry Comedies so great. He does some wonderful overacting just like in every movie he does (more or less), but I like that. It was great and worth the local movie rate of 4 bucks. You all should see it if you are bored one night with nothing to do. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? I mean you have thoes movies that are meant for children (Shrek 2, Finding Nemo, ect.) that you really enjoy nonetheless but this one I couldn't help making fun of it the whole time, I just found alot of the parts to be quite rediculous.
We also watched Brokeback Mountain and I was also disspointed in that. It got great reviews I think mostly cause it was something different but I thought it had a really shitty plot and at the end of the movie I was thinking how pretty much nothing had happened. Watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose on DVD, it is phenomenal. It isn't really a horror film at all. Instead it is a compelling courtroom drama about religion/spirituality that is effective. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: jerkasaur on May 14, 2006, 09:07:02 am I've actually heard that Flight 93 is absolutely excellent and I'd personally like to see it sometime soon.
MI III however is one big steaming pile of shit. You'd think it would be a halfway interesting and exciting action movie, but it by far has the least action of the entire series. Instead of impossible missions (and the action that goes with that), the movie instead focuses way too much time on a horribly acted and writen romance between Cruise and a Katie Homes look alike. I also wanted more Philip Semor Hofman (spelling). However the worst part was that they spent a significant amount of time setting up Cruise to infiltrate a weapons lab instead a skyscraper, yet omitting any footage from inside, aka 15 minutes setting up getting in, no time inside, oooh he's out and he's got the device. Making out is putting it lightly...the first time they kissed, one of them got his ass pounded in. about MI III...i actually liked it....i thought there was alot of action. I liked the fact that they didnt show him actually retreiving the rabbits foot...how he enters/exits was badass...just showed a different prospective of what was going on during that time...i thought it was different/cool. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on May 14, 2006, 03:31:31 pm We watched North Country a few nights ago and that was very good. It's about a mining company in Minnesota around the 70's and it was basically run by men until a few women decided to show up and the majority of the movie just shows how badly they were treated and how one of the fought to get the rest equal rights. It's really good for any of you sexists out there who think like these miners did.
We also watched Munich last night and that was also very good. About the 1972 (i think?) olympics where the arabs killed 11 israelis. The Israeli government then hires a group of assasins to take down the top members of the arab terrorist society called Black September. Some sweet explosive special effects. :) Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on May 14, 2006, 05:19:11 pm I just watched Munich for the first time last night too. Although the movie had a similiar atmosphere as the game, and locations looked really similiar to the game, there were no shocks or anything else. Further the CGI Animations could be easily distungished from the other real shoots.
Last but not least, why the hell did they take a female leading actor, bah. The game was unique and really frightened me, but the movie just made me tired. I always enjoy seeing a movie that shows Israel getting back at the people that want that country eliminated, which is basically every nation on earth except for the United States. ;) You missed the point. True, heh, that was really weird the way out of the blue he just yanks him over and well . . .ew. Yeah, it was a bit unusual. Usually you need a bit more preparation and caution. Did anyone else notice the nice spit on the hand as lube? I actually missed it too but my roommates were all over that detail. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Cell on May 15, 2006, 08:05:45 pm I hear Weak was a stunt double for the bare ass scenes in Brokeback Mountain. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on May 21, 2006, 11:06:01 pm We just watched The Sweet Hereafter and it was good but at the end I was still confused, like they had some more to explain.
It was basically about an accident in Canada which involved a bus full of kids and a small close knit community. Interesting watch though a slightly older movie. 1997? I think. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DAMN Bondo on May 22, 2006, 04:57:56 am Saw The Da Vinci Code yesterday. It does an amazing job translating the book into film. Whether you like it I suppose has more to do with your opinion of the source material. I happen to think it is very important because while it is fiction based on pieces of historical evidence, so is the Bible. It can and should make one think about what they want to believe about Christianity.
Today I saw Silence of the Lambs for the first time and actually was very disappointed. The Hannibal-Clairese (sp?) interchange is great and I can see why there were acting nominations, but the actual murder mystery of the movie is weak...equivilent to the film versions of James Patterson novels Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider. I liked the prequel Red Dragon, which I watched first, much better. I started to watch Hannibal afterwards but couldn't get into it at all. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on May 22, 2006, 08:24:51 am So I also saw MI III I liked it, despite the fact that it needed a major plot upgrade, it was an intense movie that kept me interested the whole way through. Of course, it went farther from the original amazingness of MI one where you didn't know who was good, and who was bad. (I mean it had the small bit with Laurence Fishbourn and the other MI exec guy) but it was nothing like the original. The second movie had more "action" but was less intense. I thought MI III was well worth the money, and was at least a good way to spend 2 hours or so.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: (SiX)Sheixhundt on May 22, 2006, 04:49:09 pm In my never ending pursuit of the obscure and profound..i need to suggest "Bad Boy bubby".
An indie Aussie film, by a legendary director. There were 22!! photography directors, so in terms of subtle but BRILLIANT photography, this one was a masterpiece. now, its weird, its dark, a bit disturbing, but one of the best thought out small movies ive ever seen. premise: Young man lives with his mother, who has stunted his emotional and intellectual growth by Extreme control..until one day..bubby gets out to see the real world for himself. In addition, the sound is shot with stereo helmet mics, so that the sound comes thru as Bubby would hear them. Much is shot from his perspective. Neat touch. And good to hear from you guys on MI3 and DaVinci..Its been pathetic watching all these religious groups get bent over *gasp* A WORK OF FICTION!!!! Im anxious to see them both..However my eyes will NEVER see Weaks smooth brown ass in Brokeback, becuase I dont do gay cowboy flicks... My wife said it was good, albeit a bit uncomfortable...(Sheix went out for beer and pool while she watched it) Oh, and although Im not a comix fan, ive had fun with the Xmen movies and look forward to the 26th. The trailers look like it might be the best of the three, in terms of action and effects....i put these in the "fun" category..I go to eat 7 dollar popcorn, a six dollar coke and hear rumbling dolby speakers..its that simple. Screw Medved, and Ebert and Roper..fucking payola shills.. Ive loved almost every movie they have railed against. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :V:*Beast on May 23, 2006, 01:16:34 am Yesterday I watched SilentHill with my girlfriend and we both found it kinda boring, and in no way horror. Last but not least, why the hell did they take a female leading actor, bah. The game was unique and really frightened me, but the movie just made me tired. So, that was you snoring at the back!!! Da Vinci Code: I kind of liked the book, a typical page-turner, the movie was... average :( MI III: EWWWW!! Tom Cruise EWWWW!! the series were way much better Silent Hill: despite Mauti's snoring, I enjoyed the movie i added "Bad Boy Bubby" on my list, thanx for the tip Sheix another great Aussie cult film is "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on May 23, 2006, 02:10:42 am I'll be going to see DaVinci in a few weeks when things calm down at the theaters.
What is a little ridculous is some people I've talked to are taking this movie literally which is not what its meant for. Just like Sheix says it's a work of FICTION. ;) Only thing thats true as stated in the beginning of the book: The Priory of Sion Opus Dei All descriptions of artowrk, architecture, documents and secret rituals. Other than that it's just a STORY. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: NiKLoT on May 24, 2006, 05:57:01 pm Mi: III , hmm no story much action, thats pretty much that what i like
TDC: i liked the film, i read the book too and fo sho it doesnt reach the quality of the book but i still liked it (love all Dan Brown books and in case of the davinci code, id rath belive him then the chirch!!!) Now to a film i prefered i hadnt seen it: Hostel, this film had no release in switzerland! but as i am, if something is forbidden or illegal, i have to try or in this case to c it, and i had to say OMFG!! This film is not like a normal horror film, this film has no story besides sexaddicted guys searching bitches untill about 1/2 of the film but then the masacre starts and its just horrible.. well w/e Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Ethion on May 29, 2006, 10:27:03 pm I managed to get ahold of a movie called The Final Countdown, from 1980.
With stars like Martin Sheen, and Kirk Douglas. It's about a aircraft carrier that gets transported back in time to 1940, when the japs are going to attack Pearl Harbor.. I have to say, it's one terrible movie, but so funny. One scene, a senator manages to destroy a whole chopper with a flare gun. Quality ey? http://imdb.com/title/tt0080736/ Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on May 31, 2006, 09:44:16 am shade just so you know, Priory of sion isnt real, it was discovered to be a 1950's hoax a while back.
I just finished the book davinci code (It took me all of one day) and I've got to say, I hate it when books are so good you can't put them down. I wanted to go do other things, but I just couldn't this book was so good. Its too bad that the movie supposedly doesnt keep up with the book, even with the big names. Oh well, It will be neat to see anyway now that I've read the book. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on June 02, 2006, 12:14:34 am Direct from the beginning of the book
FACT: The Priory of Scion - a European secret society founded in 1099-is a real organization. In 1975 Paris's Bibliotheque Nationale discovered parchments known as Les Dossiers SEcrets, identifying numberous members of the Priory of Sion, including Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Leonardo da Vinci. What parts of the book did you read? heh. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on June 02, 2006, 06:25:32 pm The whole thing, then I watched some of the discovery channels Da Vinci Code week, which said that the Priory of Sion is in fact a fake. That list was created back in the 50's according to the discovery channel And shortly after its discovery was proven to be a fraud. A group called the "Priory of Sion" may have once existed, but it did not have leaders as illustrious as Isaac Newton Leo Da Vinci ect. ect.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? If you really want to be able to seperate fact from fiction read that book or "the woman with the alabastar jar" same subject but written by a former catholic who while trying to refute holy blood, holy grail actually found herself believing it Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on June 06, 2006, 02:14:54 pm Well i watched Three Kings last night... I had got the inpression previosuly that this was some stupid jumped up 'three gun toting nuts go steal gold in iraq" and i was very very surprised.
1. it wasn't, it was a decent enough film to sit down and watch 2. There are some great little one liners and jokes despite the un-comical settings! Cow explosions was a personal favorite. 3. Im becoming a bit of a fan of george clooney god damn it.. it was watching "O Brother where art though" that really did it heh. 4. I don't mind saying that ending brought tears to my eyes considering what has happened in Iraq. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on June 06, 2006, 02:38:44 pm We watched Tristan and Isolde and I didn't like it much, there are so many movies that are identical to this one its getting lame. Mideval warfare, Irish girl meets Brit (James Franco has a TERRIBLE fake british accent). The two shouldn't be together because they are from warring nations, blah blah blah.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: cO.twist on June 19, 2006, 07:33:35 am saw Nacho Libre last night...I thought it was hilarious...you'll like it if you liked stuff like Napoleon Dynamite. Another movie that i thought was hilarious was Benchwarmers.
Other movies that ive seen recently were: An American Haunting - absolute shit, dont waste your money. Failure to Launch - Funny, but not rediculously funny. Silent Hill - Gay. The Omen (2006) - Great remake, not corny like 99% of today's horror movies. V for Vendetta - pretty good, worth the money. Unrealistic, but interesting. Rented movies: Underworld 2 - Badass, just like the first Guest Who? - has bernie mac/ashton k. it was alot funnier than i thought, worth the rent. Running Scared - Very cool, worth the rent. The Constant Gardener - Very good, worth watching. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? One of the most disturbing films I have ever seen. After I saw it I was left with a feeling of sadness, anger, disgust "Beautifully" made, superb editing, gripping story, excellent acting (even damon Wayans :o), but heavy duty. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on June 27, 2006, 01:15:26 am Just watched it last night KGB.. and i'd have to agree with your summery, pretty f*cked up to be honest. Wasn't wild about some of the editing but as a whole it was certainly some pretty angry sad disgusting depressing twisted madness of a film.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: dr.blake. on June 27, 2006, 10:54:11 pm Requiem is one of my favs... for some reason people getting way too into heroin always makes for a great film.. Basketball Diaries and Trainspotting are also in my top 10. See those if you havent.
Most recently i saw Game6 which is a movie about a playwright in New York who decides to watch game 6 of the 1986 world series (Red Sox vs. Mets... bill buckner.. through the legs.. mets win.. devestating) instead of going to the premire of his play. Good stuff.. I'm also absolutely PSYCHED to see Superman Returns in iMax 3D. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :V: Stripes on June 30, 2006, 02:22:13 pm Just watched Saw II.

The Hills Have Eyes- yeah, scary if the character in Goonies scared you... Dauber (the giant goofball) from the old TV Show Coach played the big 'monster', if that tells you anything...monster dialog was absolutely horrendous. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: (SiX)Sheixhundt on July 12, 2006, 09:41:34 pm Pirates of the Carribean II-- good stuff, funnier than the first one..great CGI.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Croosch on July 12, 2006, 11:38:29 pm Pirates of the Carribean 2: I actually found the first one to be a bit better. This one was a little cluttered in my opinion and didn't really follow the first one right on. I do beleive it was very well made and is good but the first one was great. This is definately not a disappointment. ;D I imagine the third one will be the best of the three judging by the story. 8/10
Click: A little slow throughout much of the movie, sort of confusing in the middle. A lot of stuff was added in the middle that really didn't have to be there. I did like the ending a lot and the beginning was good. More serious than Happy Gilmore, less serious than 50 First Dates. 6/10 The Island: I bought this movie with no real clue what it was about... it just caught my eye in the store. The beginning is a little confusing as you're trying to figure it out (in a good way, makes you think as all sci fi movies do). As the movie goes on the story gets better and the action gets stronger. With a great story and made very well I give it a 9/10. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: dr.blake. on July 16, 2006, 12:42:17 am I guarantee you The Island wouldnt have gotten that 9/10 if Scarlett Johansson wasnt in it.
Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: :MoD:Shade on July 20, 2006, 08:40:50 pm I also thought Pirates of the Carribean 2 was great, though I think the fight scenes in both movies blow ass. If you want an example of shit take a look at the scene where the camera is scrolling along sideways as the 3 guys tumble around the waterwheel.
We also watched Date Movie which was okay, it wasn't like nonstop laughter but then again I don't like that kind of humor. Watched Match Point which was great and also Syriana which I thought was hard to understand. They tried to do too many things though they did make some really good points along the way. Though I would reccomend Match Point over Syriana it's a little less intense so to speak, easy watching. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: dr.blake. on July 23, 2006, 09:59:56 pm Superman Returns sucked.
Kevin Spacey is a perfect Luthor tho. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 28, 2006, 11:41:05 pm On Monday last I made a pilgrimage to all the GameStops within ten miles of my work to buy cheap DVDs. Then I watched a bunch of them over my weekend.
Murderball - A documentary about Quad[riplegic] Rugby, earlier known as Murderball. This movie kicks seven kinds of ass, I highly recommend it. Versus - A Japanese "B" movie. It was very much a live-action anime, and I dug it. The Manchurian Candidate - I'd heard the title but knew nothing about it, and I was pleased. A Beautiful Mind - As good as I'd heard. How Russell Crowe didn't get a Best Actor nod is beyond me. Catch Me If You Can - Damn good movie, and a lot of fun to watch. Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio put in their usual excellent performances. I recommend this one. Eiken - An anime OVA that I'd seen in AMV Hell 0 and had to see for myself. It was an hour of pure fanservice and randomness, which is right up my alley. Argentosoma, disc 1 - The first five episodes of an anime series I'd heard good things about. The good things were justified. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Croosch on August 10, 2006, 05:04:06 am Another not so new movie I just saw... I wasn't intending to watch it and I had absolutley no clue what it was but I saw it in the guide on HBO and decided to watch it.
The Jacket: This movie is amazing in my opinion. Adrien Brody does and amazing job and Keira Knightley isn't far off on her performance. The story is basically of a man who has bad memories of the war in the past (1991 Iraq) where he was shot in the head (the very first scene). After his recovery he was accused of killing a cop and instead of going to prison he was sent to a hospital where he underwent treatment that allowed him to travel into the future. He learns things in the future and... well, it's an amazing movie in my opinion. Go see it if you haven't already. 10/10 Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: DarK. on August 10, 2006, 07:47:13 am I saw the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang a while back. It was pretty damn good. It had an odd style to it. Post by: Mr. Pink on August 12, 2006, 10:11:13 am I saw Little Miss Sunshine tonight. The movie is very well done, probably the best movie out there in theatres right now (which honestly isn't saying much with the shit currently playing, but I found it to be a very satisfying film nonetheless). I don't want to say too much about it, but to anyone that likes Alan Arkin, Steve Carell, quirky characters or good scripts, I highly suggest giving this film a view.
It was mostly playing at the independent theatres around here, though one of the larger ones was carrying it at select times. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Croosch on January 07, 2007, 03:33:53 pm I haven't posted a review up here in a while (and I see nobody else has either)... thought I'd chime in with my latest five movies.
Apocalypto - (Summary included... don't read the navy writing if you don't want the story spoiled) This man knows how to make a good movie... the best movie that has come out of theatres in a very long time in my opinion. With an all-star directing/writing team and a cast made up entirely of indigenous people, this genuine movie gets a 10 out of 10 from me. It all starts in a little native mexican village located in the mexican rainforest near the great mayan empire. We follow a young native man, Jaguar Paw, through his daily life as a hunter, a father, and a husband. All is well until a mayan war party attacks the young mans small village to find sacrificial prisoners and slaves to bring to the great Mayan pyramids. During the attack Jaguar Paw witnesses the execution of his father. Children are left behind and the young mans pregnant wife and son become trapped in a deep cave as they hide for safety. Jaguar Paw, along with many of his comrades, are taken on a journey through the rainforest toward the Mayan empire. On their long trek they come across a young and sick prophet girl who tells the mayans that they will soon end. Jaguar Paw and his tribespeople are in astonishment when they see so many slaves, buildings made of stone, and the great pyramids. The women are sold as slaves and the men are hurded to the top of the tallest pyramid. Here, one by one, they will be placed on a table, their heart will be removed while still beating, and their head will be chopped off and thrown down the steps. When it's time for Jaguar Paw to step up he turns to his friend and says, "It's not my time." He walks toward the table and lies down. Just as he's about to be cut open the sky begins turning dark, an eclipse. The mayans take this as a sign that their god has had enough blood and has no need for anymore sacrafices. The remaining tribespeople, Jaguar Paw included, are taken to a long open field with a large corn field at the end. One mayan man, a young soldier and son of the war party leader, is told to run to the end of the field. The natives are uncuffed and told they are free. Two natives are told to begin running toward the corn or they will be killed. As they reach the half-way point the mayan soldiers begin throwing spears and sending arrows toward the running men. They will most definately be hit and if they aren't killed from the spear or the arrow the mayan man at the end of the field finishes them with a club. After witnessing two to four men get killed, Jaguar Paw and his running mate begin their sprint. They weave back and forth in a helix motion as they dodge the onslaut. The man with jaguar paw takes one in the back of the head and Jaguar Paw is soon taken down by an arrow to the back. As the man with the club approaches, Jaguar Paw pulls the arrow from his back and sticks it in the mans neck. The mayan warriors cheer in victory until they realize what has happened. The war party leader along with warriors follow Jaguar Paw in his footsteps as Jaguar Paw makes his way back to his trapped wife and son. Jaguar Paw leads the mayan men over a waterfall and through the rainforest while setting traps along the way. The mayan men, afraid of the prophecy which told of a jaguar, become frightened and weak. Once Jaguar Paw reaches his old hunting grounds he takes control and kills, one by one, all but two of the men. Jaguar Paw, injured and tired, looks like he has given up as he lies on a beach. As his final two enemies approach they look toward the ocean and watch as a large fleet comes closer to land. The remaining mayan warriors, stunned by the sight, allow Jaguar Paw to escape and rescue his son and wife who just gave birth to his new child in the the cave. They then walk off into the rainforest to start a new life. We get introduced to an ancient and miraculous lifestyle from about 500 years ago. The actual accuracy has been in question for a while now. Many historians believe that it's very accurate in almost all aspects but many mayan predecessors believe that the mayans are wrongly portrayed as blood-thirsty savages in Apocalypto. No matter what the accuracy, this movie was made extremely well and follows a great heroic story. Keep in mind, it's all subtitles... if it would have been in english, it would have taken from the realism that this movie is best known for. I give it a 10/10 ------------------------------------------ On a side note, I saw Talladega Nights the other night and thought it was absolute shit... if you're expecting Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin, or Old school you'll be very disappointed. Talladega Nights, in my opinion was very very horribly written. I usually enjoy the stupid funny movies but this one was just plain stupid with no funny. You get thrown a bunch of crued half-assed humor. 3/10 and I think I'm being quite generous ------------------------------------------ A Night At The Museum was a typical Ben Stiller film... if you like Ben Stiller you'll like this film. Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, and Steve Coogan all add a nice flare to the film. A great family movie. 8/10 ------------------------------------------ Little Miss Sunshine was a little bit different... it contains funny and sad moments as you follow a dysfunctional family through their trip to a beauty pageant. It's a simple, low-budget, independant film that surprised me quite a bit. NOT a childrens movie. 7.5/10 ------------------------------------------ You, Me, and Dupree was a film that I enjoyed watching. Matt Dillon, Owen Wilson, and Kate Hudson all contribute their own qualities to this film to make it pretty good. An overall good and funny movie. 8/10 Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BFG on January 07, 2007, 06:23:24 pm I went to se Pans Labyrinth the other week and Casino Royal the other night.
I cannot recomment Pans Labyrinth high enogh - its a beautifully made touching film from a director with a stunning imagination. Its gripping and at times extreamly violent as two worlds collide - that of the battle between franco's army and the rebels and the fantasy world of a little girl that comes alive! i've probably not decribed it very well but go and see it. now. as for bond, the best yet. without a doubt cutting some of the stupid one liners and all the daft gadgets was a great move. Daniel Craig makes an excellent bond - rougher, tougher and well more 'lifelike. he gets hurt, alot yet pulls of the slickness of the 'tranditional bond' with his own unique twist. good stuff. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: Croosch on January 11, 2007, 04:22:14 am The Illusionist - One of my new all time favorite movies... I also saw Little Miss Sunshine on DVD recently and I really liked. At all I hoped for a more fun movie and the VW bus scene becomes a bit boring, but at all a good well made movie. Last but not least I have watched "Trans America" a wonderful and fun movie about transsexuality. The main actress, Felicity Huffman, well known from the Desperate Housewives, really surprised me and played just great. A must for every movie fan. Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on July 22, 2007, 06:06:29 am In the past week I saw Transformers, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Live Free or Die Hard, Ratatouille, 1408, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I enjoyed all of them.
Oh, I also took my daughter to see Nancy Drew...it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! Title: Re: What movies have you seen recently? Post by: *DAMN Mauti on February 03, 2008, 12:40:39 am I just saw Die Hard 4.0. Since a long time an action movie that I really enjoyed. Almost as much as Die Hard 1.0. John is back!

It's done very well I thought, with the special effects and the intense scenes. I heard mixed reviews previously, but for my own personal taste I give it a 3.5 out of 5.

So wtf.... New villain ok. But new big bad villain, son of known force strong individual couldn't handle (1) a damn storm trooper who figured out how to us a light saber. (2)Let alone couldn't deal with a brand new Jedi who didn't even know that they could use the force by the start of the movie. Can we trust this new villain as a good one? I say dead by second movie. Should have been dead by this one in my opinion but the earth split and they were somehow saved. Comments??? |
