Yesterday morning on the coast of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia, while filming a documentary, Irwin was struck by a sting ray in the heart and was pronounced dead on the scene by responding medical personel. Regardless of what we may have thought of him, he was an incredible man with an amazing passion for his work and truly good through and through. The world is much poorer with his passing. great guy, self effacing (knew he was somewhat goofy) widely loved in the states, as a sincere, caring guy- i guess we all knew it would happen sometime, i just didnt think it would be by stingray.. snake, croc, spider...but not stingray. "Steve Irwin was videotaped pulling a poisonous stingray barb from his chest in his last moments of life" Wouldn't it be wise to wear some kind of metal chest plate while swimming around stingrays to avoid this? This guy was a maniac. Seeing him jump into crock infested waters in the dark to wrestle one of them monsters into the boat was probably the sickest thing I've seen him do.

Sting rays normally never attack, and if they do then it is almost never fatally - in this case it was the fact the barb pierced his heart... i guess all u can say is at least it was quick - although if he was able to pull it out then maybe not as quick as i thought. ps, im guessing its too early for steve Irwin jokes? bad taste yeah ok.Just checkin...
