Title: hot! Hot! HOT! HOT!!!!!!!!
Post by: BTs_FahQ2 on July 25, 2006, 01:13:09 am
For shits sake has it been ungodly hot. Especially even for southern california this is rediculous. It's been about 100 F, 38C for the rest of the humane world, for about 2 weeks maybe now. Not only that but it has been strangely florida like humid in a place that is known only for dry dry heat. For the love of god I hope it ends. This is starting to remind me of a twilight zone episode that has the earth floating torward the sun.

anyways, i see record temps across the whole globe pretty much. Just thought we would like to heat vent. BTW, my dogs sleep about 22 hours a day now after 2 hours of endless panting and running in circles after eating a cube of ice, man that is funny shit.

Yeah, I'm in San DIego, Fah, and yesterday morning I was driving home from work and thinking that this is the future. In less than a decade, barring tremendous social and political changes, this is what it's going to be like all the time. This has only lasted a few weeks, so there haven't been any serious social or economic repercussions yet, but if this was day in, day out stuff, there'd be big problems that most people really haven't considered.

For instance, cows produce less milk when they're hot. Dairy farmers in California are using cooling devices to keep their cows cool. The rising cost of energy would make cooling dairy herds untenable in the long run, which means dairy products become scarce, which means they become luxuries. I never thought that my contribution to the perennial "back in my day" lecture to kids would be "we put milk on our cereal."

I was skiing in Vail early this year, and a local told me that in 20 yrs. there would hardly be any more good snow in the Mountains cause of the increasing world heat....

I literally went home depressed!

Yea, this is nasty shit.  I'm in the Sacramento California area and we've been breaking records.  Today was a bit cooler at 109º F.  I have this temp gun I use at work and was taking some random readings - Blacktop was a blistering 145º compared to a shaded area in the grass which was 98º.  Heat waves like this make it hard to work outdoors.

Forget nuclear war, terrorist attacks, global pandemics and earthquakes, global climate change is the most severe problem we face today. These high temps are only the tip of the ice berg in a chain of events that could easily eradicate human life civilization as we know it.

Personally, as I sit and write this in the comfort of air conditioning, I can't help but to wonder when the rolling brownouts will start as the grid collapses. Ever wonder why the super rich live "off" the grid?

actually the world map usually looks like that sadly enough. Right now a little bit more on the heavy side, well that and really huge flame icons.

Anyways, South american and mainly the brazil region, eastern china, indonesia and tropical africa are continuosly on fire do to slash and burn farming practices. Siberia, the US, canada, australia and europe all get lighting strikes. And in particular, California has too many nut jobs that just like to set fires in the summers.

How there are huge flame icons in the middle east i dunno, maybe political flame icons, haha, not too much to really burn there in terms of wild fires.

btw, nice site, i bookmarked.

The boundary waters here in northern Minnesota have been on fire for quite some time now.  The fire now has a 50 square mile perimeter and it's just 35% contained.  we need rain :(

Here's a pretty good series on how the oceans are going to hell http://www.latimes.com/news/local/oceans/la-oceans-series,0,7842752.special

Runoff from modern life is feeding an explosion of primitive organisms. This 'rise of slime,' as one scientist calls it, is killing larger species and sickening people.
