[Battle LEAGUE] - [29.4.2002 ; 8:33 pm - by Bondo]
Just as a possibility I'd like to propose an idea for thought (thanks to Infection for his imput). Anyway, what would all of you think about actually having the Battle League be a league rather than a ladder. Shaped like a sports league (either with divisions and playoffs or like the Premier League with just one group with points determining the winner). Anyway there would be a schedule (perhaps one game a week for a few months) with a team playing a number of others depending on division, or maybe they'd just play all of the other teams and that would make up the season. For the season we could either do a record ranking or a 3for win-1 for tie-0 for loss system. If we did have a playoffs it could be 8 or 16 team with best 2 out of 3 CBs and then at the end of the tournement we'd have our winner based completely on skill. Now this would be hard to implement and a lot of work, but please vote based on if you think it would be a fun system not on if you actually think it should be tried. Yes if you like it, no if you don't.

I'm in favor of having no tie-breakers so there could very well be ties. If they split the games 5-5 both teams would get 1 point. At least that is how I see it. We'll have to get on GR at the same time and discuss all the rules in a chat. Or maybe AIM if that would be easier. |

Yea that sounds good except maybe win-loss-tie. I don't know how other people feel but I think that in most sports records are recorded as win-loss. There will rarely be a tie anyway. If you don't like that Bondo it's not that big a deal I just think in better that way. |

About scoring, it would be simple because kills and game score wouldn't matter, only wins, just like in all league sports. Anyway, I was thinking 3-1-0 for Win-Tie-Loss, just like soccer. Let each team play every clan once and then take the top 8 and have a playoff with best 2 of 3 CBs for each round. |

Great Idea!
Assasin, that is true, but, it would bring a little more structure to Cb'in. If it was as a leauge, i think there would be more intrest rather then there is now. Many of the top clans have disbaned, maybe this will bring a few back, or spawn new ones. We have tried using the BL for a long time now, I think a change would do nothing but improve the curent system.
Along with the new leauge, we should maybe keep the scoring at a minimal.
For example:
10 pts for a win
5 for a tie
1 for a loss
something simple and easy that accurate percentages could be calculated. Leave the algorythums out of this one! Plus of you keep the scoring at simplicity, there will be less irritating arguments. |

Yes. I guess you guys are understanding that this is just a suggestion and are agreeing that it could be fun. We aren't asking if it will work. Just do you like it and would it be fun. We are willing to work. |

Obviously this wouldn't be a complete replacement. It would take some time but it would be more fun. The winners would truly be the number one clan and be active and perhaps even a prize..I have some suggestions for that. All of the clans wouldn't just be sitting at the top of the ladder. |

Alright, who has been tampering with the poll, Odd how it suddenly goes from a 2:1 ratio for the league to a 9:1 ratio against it. Besides this isn't even a poll to change anything. I would consider starting up a league like this apart from the ladder for those who wanted the extra competition but it was never my intention to replace the ladder so those of you who were worried about having the switch be mandatory shouldn't be voting no. |

I agree, this likely wouldn't be a complete replacement, there would be this, the structured system, and then the loose ladder system that can have as many or as few number of battles as is desired. But it really isn't a huge time requirement from the clans, you are talking one battle a week or essentially about an hour. And only select members need to be there (would be 3v3 probably) So 3 of the numerous clan members (although some clans are small) would have to show up at some point during the week for an hour. If you can't do that, what are you doing on the ladder because you obviously aren't active. |

While a noble idea, there is no way we could get this to work. People have lives outside of GameRanger and battling and could not always possibly show up for a date with a cb. If you are the type who would schedule your day around a game, you truly have no life.
If you want to have this type of league, have it as a complement to the ladder, not as a replcaement. |
