[Once again TI] - [13.1.2003 ; 10:56 am - by *DAMN AdminAcc]
Hi guys,
on friday I#ll decide to turn TI off or not. Currently the NO-TI fraction is in favour. So if you belong to the TI-ON fans post your experiences and reasons why the Threat Indicator should be on @ BL forum. There you will also find very valuable posts about games with TI on and off.
Bye,
Mauti

Utlimo, i dont think turning off indicator would simplify the game. It would make it more difficult, i would assume. ;p
Turn it off i say! OFF
My browser is being retarded and wont load the forum page, so i will just post my thoughts here. and if you want to, you can move it there.
ultimo, i know you feel that with it off, it will cause far more camping. I on the other hand, believe it would cause less, since people wouldnt know where they are coming from. I feel with it on, it will cause more camping, cuz you know exactly where they are coming from, and the person running towards the yellow bar, is more likely to get shot, than the guy sitting there, aiming in that direction. So i would think that if the teams both knew of this, they would both camp, thinking the other team is coming to get them, and thus, extremely long cb's would occur (i know you wouldnt want this).
With it off, you would be more aware of just sitting there, because you wouldn't know where and when they are coming. This, I feel, would cause the teams to actually head out and start searching. I know it is harder to find the camper, but the camper still doesnt know which direction you are coming. So this would make it easier and difficult at the same time.
Yes, snipers would be more effective, in this, since you wouldnt be able to know their position. But with the certain strategies, you can render them almost useless. |

I only used the "cheap HBS" thing in my post to use it as an example. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone call it cheap Typhy. |

Thought that I would comment on this since I've seen it several times; some people consider heartbeat sencors "cheap". - I don't know how you can call something "cheap" that you have the ability to totally remove with a few well placed jammers.
I think that anyone who wants to remove heartbeat sencors from CBs, is someone who simply hasn't learned how to counter one. While a heartbeat sencor may be very useful at times for an offensive player, allowing them to effectivly know where to prefire; the fact that a player is using a heartbeat sencor can also be used as a weapon for the oposing side. A well place HB puck can work perfectly, as the player prefires where it looks like there is a person, you can take them for the side, while they're unaware. A puck and a HB jammer make a deadly combination. Anytime that you can get jammers set, it gives you an advantage because players will often run into you carrying HB sencors.
HB sencors seem like an important part of the game, they're a weapon that adds a lot to games. I think that restricting HBs would be much like restricting frag grenades; it would take away from a key aspect of the game.
Now, onto my opinion about threat indicatior ( TI ): I really can't form a complete opinion either way. My argument for TI:
Without TI on, a good sniper will be able to win a battle easily, all that they have to do is get a good spot, and they can take out the whole team. I saw KoS Mr. Lothario do some wonderful sniping at Stronghold today, because TI was off, the oposing team had no way to locate him, and he was able to snipe off everyone who came near. The only problem with this, is that I don't belive he moved the entire game. There's a thin line between ''sniping'' and "camping". - This would be very frusterating in a CB; to prevent against camping, TI would be needed. TI doesn't give an exact discription of where the tango is, just an idea of where to go.
Now, my argument for TI to be disabled: I've played a fair ammount of Ghost Recon, not to much, since I do perfer Rogue Spear, but, enough to have a pretty good understanding on how the game works. If you turn TI on, it will completly take away from the tactical team based defensive style of play involved with Ghost Recon. One of the best parts about the game of Ghost Recon is to have a perfect sniper set, each time the oponent makes a move, they get shot in the head from 4 sides. With TI on, sniper sets would have lots less value, because the enimey could figure out your location quickly, and hit you form your back side.
Side facts: TI is needed for 2v2 CBs, so that games don't last for 30 minutes without seeing anyone, probably the same with 3v3s.
Conclusion: I think that TI should be activated for 2v2 and 3v3 CBs, to avoid extremely long, camper filled games. However, I think for anything above 3v3 it should be deactivated.
Just my thoughts,
Typhy

Ult, PC ladders play RS w/o HBS and 3rd.
At least be consistent. |

Well I relooked at the www.clanladder.com there is TI On contrary to the "The rumble" ladder. However if I read through the posted experiences from different clans they had no problems with camping and as you know you still see the direction when someone shoots.
However you can currently cb with TI ON.

The PC ladders I looked @ had it all off. Even Viper now thinks we should turn it off. Yes Ult you told us your reasons but not your experiences with TI on and off. |

I've already posted my reasons..... its just a shame though. Just like in RS the mac community is anal about stuff and always wants to take things away so the ame gets simplified. Look at almost all the pc ladder, they know what their doing, and they have TI-ON. |
